The criteria for selecting a selection on which to perform a specific action or evaluate a specific condition are varied and are listed below.

A selection can be identified:

• By Betfair Row: specify the exact position in which the selection appears in the Betfair Market Catalogue.
• By Ascending Back Odds Position: in this case, the position of each selection may change over time. Position 1 indicates the selection with the lowest Back odds (odds available to Back) among all selections.
• By Ascending Lay Odds Position: in this case, the position of each selection may change over time. Position 1 indicates the selection with the lowest Lay odds (odds available to Lay) among all selections.
• By Descending Volume Position: in this case, the position of each selection may change over time. Position 1 indicates the selection with the highest traded volume among all selections.
• By Last Traded Odds Position: in this case, the position of each selection may change over time. Position 1 indicates the selection with the lowest Last Traded Odds among all selections.
• By Name Containing: allows you to identify a selection by its name by specifying in the filter a sequence of consecutive characters contained in the name, or its full name. If the specified character sequence is common to multiple selections, only the first one in Betfair order will be found.
• By P/L Position if It Wins: the position of each selection may change over time. Position 1 indicates the selection with the lowest P/L if it were to win.
  
• By Exact Name: the selection name must exactly match the specified name (the search is not case-sensitive).
• By Saddlecloth Number: applies to horse racing events where this information is available.
• By Stall Number: applies to horse racing events where this information is available.
• Selection Assigned at Runtime: the selection can be specified at a later stage, when the strategy is applied to the market using the appropriate controls available in the Strategy Application Window of the Market Window or in the Market Monitor. The selection must be specified here using one of the 5 available slots.
• Default Strategy Application Selection: this option tells the program that the strategy will be started from the trading interface of a specific selection and that the selection from which the strategy is activated will be the one used for the action or condition. This option makes it possible to create strategies dedicated to individual selections and apply them as part of a mixed manual/automated trading approach.
  When creating a strategy for a specific selection using this option, it is recommended that you assign the strategy to one of the default strategy positions so that it is available in the trading interface. See this page for details.
• From Last Matched Bet: the selection will be the one on which the most recent bet was matched in the specified market.
• Any Selection. VALID FOR CONDITIONS ONLY.
  The condition is evaluated on all selections and is considered met if at least one selection satisfies it. A list containing all selections that satisfy the condition is also created and saved under the name specified when defining the condition. This list can then be used in Actions so that they are performed on the same selections.
  While a strategy is running, the selection indexes generated by conditions using this setting are dynamically displayed in the strategy tree within the Strategy Application Window.
  Selection List from Condition. VALID FOR ACTIONS ONLY.
  This is the counterpart of the option described above for Conditions. By selecting this option, the selection indexes generated by Conditions can be used to perform the specified Action on those selections.

Reverse Order
When an option requires a position to be specified, selecting Reverse causes the order to be considered in the opposite direction to that defined by the option. For example, specifying Betfair Row 1 and selecting Reverse effectively selects the last selection in Betfair row order.
