Stake Definition

Updated on 2025-11-06

The stake, or bet amount, can be defined in various ways within the program. Specifically, with regard to the trading interfaces (Grid, Ladder, Traderscope), the principle applies: if no specific Stake buttons are displayed for the function, the stake is the one defined in the main window.

Stake Values and Stake Modifiers

In the main window, you can set the values separately for back and lay bets, as well as how these values should be considered to determine the actual stake that will be placed with the bet. This is referred to as a "Stake Modifier."

In the boxes containing the stake value, you can type a stake of your choice or right-click on the box to access the menu containing predefined values. Clicking on a predefined value automatically inserts it into the value box.

The values in the main window's button bar menu lists are the same as those in the grid and ladder buttons and can be set in the Options window on the Trading page in the Preset Stakes for Buttons and Menus box.

For the meaning of the various stake modifiers, see further on this page.

Stake Buttons

If the Stake Buttons are displayed, they take precedence in terms of value; specifically, the stake value is the one selected there. However, the type of modifier, or how the button value is considered in calculating the true stake, always depends on the selection in the main window's button bar.

Stake Modifiers for Back Betting

  • Back Stake
This is the default value and means that the value selected in the button bar menu or selected in the stake buttons is the actual stake of the bets that will be placed on the market.

  • Back Profit
In this case, the value indicated will be the profit we want to obtain from the bet. For example, suppose we enter a value of 1 and select the "profit" type; Betting at odds of 3, the stake will be 0.5, which is the stake value that allows us to obtain a profit of
    0.5 * (3-1) = 1 $  if the selection wins.
Without changing the settings, betting at odds of 4 will result in a true stake of 0.33 euros, which in fact allows us to obtain a profit of:
    0.33 * (4-1) = 1 $.

  • Back Tick Profit
In this case, the stake is calculated so that a back/lay trade of one tick will yield a profit equal to the indicated one.
    Example
Betting at 1.2 and having indicated "1" as the value, the bet will be equal to 100 euros because:
    100 * (1.2 - 1.19) = 1 $.
As you can see, the exposure values with this method immediately become significant, so it is best to use it with caution, having fully understood the operating principle.

  • Back Payout
This is the stake value that, when multiplied by the odds, yields the indicated value.
For example, entering 1 as the value and betting at odds of 2 results in a true stake of 0.50 $.

  • Balance Percentage
The number indicated will be the percentage of the balance to be used for the bet. For example, entering 1 and having a balance of 200 $, the actual stake will be 2 $.

Stake Modifiers for Lay Bets

  • Lay Stake
As with Back bets, this is the default value and means that the value selected in the button bar menu or selected in the stake buttons is the true stake for the bets placed on the market.

  • Lay Liability
The calculated value will be the value that, in a Lay bet at the indicated odds, will cause a potential loss if the selection wins equal to the indicated amount. The symbol for this type of modifier is L (Liability).
For example, specifying a Liability of 1 and laying at odds of 1.05 will result in a stake of 20, as:
    20*(1.05 - 1) = 1 $.

  • Bank Tick Profit
The meaning is similar to the Back bet, with the difference that it assumes an exit from the trade one tick above with a Back counter/bet.

  • Bank Payout
This is the stake value that, when multiplied by the odds, yields the indicated value.
For example, specifying a value of 1 and laying at odds of 6 results in a real stake of 0.17 $.

  • Balance Percentage
In this case, unlike the similar case for Back bets, the stake will not be equal to the balance percentage, but rather will be the one that allows for a liability equal to the indicated balance percentage.
