Grid

Updated on 2024-07-25

The Grid represents the market in tabular form and by default consists of the following columns: Selections, LTP/LTA, Back, WoM, Lay, Volume, and Chart. The number of Back and Lay columns can be set via the Options window in the Grid tab.

As with the Ladder, each selection in the Grid has two types of numbers: those inside colored squares represent the order based on favoritism, while the light gray ones represent the sequential order as specified by Betfair.

Proceeding from left to right, the first column contains a horizontal fill histogram indicating the probability of success for each selection, calculated based on the best Back price. When there are matched bets, this column displays the Cash Out button. Details and explanations about the Cash Out function are provided in the dedicated paragraph in the Functions chapter.
The third column displays the Last Traded Price (LTP) and the Last Traded Amount (LTA), indicating the type of trade, whether it was a Lay (L) or a Back (B).

By default, the Back column shows the top three odds available for placing Back bets, while the Lay column shows the top three odds for placing Lay bets. Betting Toolkit allows for more than three odds to be displayed, extending the horizontal book depth. To do this, open the Options window and choose the desired parameters in the Grid tab under the options "Number of Back Columns" and "Number of Lay Columns."

The penultimate column, labeled Volume, shows the monetary value of the traded odds for each selection, including the proportion between the selections.
Finally, the last column contains a chart that shows the real-time trend of the odds as they are traded. Two types of charts are available: line and bar, which can be set in the Options window on the Grid page.

Trading Operations with the Grid
Above the table, there are two buttons labeled "Match" and "Propose," which determine the behavior following a click on an available odd. If the "Match" option is selected, when the mouse moves, the cells with the odds will be surrounded by a blue border.

Clicking on an available Back odd (left side of the table) will place a BACK bet and match it immediately. Clicking on an available Lay odd (right side of the table) will place a LAY bet and match it immediately.
If the "Propose" option is selected, when the mouse moves, the cells with the odds will be surrounded by a white border.

Clicking on an available Back odd (left side of the table) will place a LAY bet, adding it to those waiting on the book at that odds level along with the available Back bets. Clicking on an available Lay odd (right side of the table) will place a BACK bet, adding it to those waiting on the book at that odds level along with the available Lay bets.
The preselection of the Match/Propose choice when the market window opens will follow the settings in the Options window, Grid page.
The stake will be:
- if the stake buttons are active, the stake selected at that moment in the stake buttons.
- if the stake buttons are not active, the stake selected in the top bar of the main window.
The selected amount will be interpreted as the actual stake or as Profit (for BACK bets) or Liability (for LAY bets) if the two corresponding options in the top bar of the main window are selected.

Stake Modifier Buttons
"Take All" Bets
By holding down the CTRL key on the keyboard while clicking the mouse, the stake will be limited to the amount available on the book, overriding the above amounts. For example, if the book has 2 euros available for a Lay bet and you place a Back bet of 5 euros at that odds level, normally you would be matched for 2 euros and have 3 euros left in the market. Holding down the CTRL key will immediately reduce the stake for that bet to 2 euros.
"Void" Bets to Zero Out Selection Win Outcome
By holding down the SHIFT key, the program automatically calculates the necessary stake to zero out the economic outcome in case of a win for the selection in question, with a bet placed at the indicated odds.
